Walk from the Diag to dinner, then visit the river Sunday morning

Cross Central Campus in daylight, linger at the Museum of Art or natural history museum, browse State Street and Kerrytown, and reserve Saturday dinner downtown. On a fair-weather morning, choose Argo Cascades, Gallup Park, or a paved Border-to-Border Trail segment.

Campus, city, and river trips need different priorities

A first city weekend

Use Saturday for the Diag, one university museum, State Street, Kerrytown, and a reserved Main Street dinner. Keep Sunday for Argo or Gallup when river conditions cooperate; visit the natural history museum instead when rain rules out the river.

A campus appointment

Stay near Central Campus, register university tours in advance, and put the Law Quadrangle, University of Michigan Museum of Art, and State Street around the fixed appointment. A car is unnecessary for that core day.

A football weekend

Treat Michigan Stadium as Saturday's main event. Reserve the room and parking early, expect road changes, and move the museum, market, and river choices to Friday or Sunday rather than crowding them around kickoff.

A river-focused visit

Check city river conditions and livery operations before leaving the hotel. Paddle Argo-to-Gallup when the trip is operating, or use the Border-to-Border Trail and Gallup Park paths. Campus galleries cover a rainy morning.

Between campus and Kerrytown

State Street, Main Street, and Kerrytown make a compact city walk

State Street runs past campus bookshops, cafés, the Michigan Theater, and the State Theatre marquee. Main Street is the downtown restaurant and gallery corridor. Kerrytown adds the farmers market, food shops, and brick lanes north of downtown.
